The former NDSM shipyard in the north of Amsterdam (across the IJ river) is taken over by more than 700 market stalls every first weekend of the month. People from all over the Netherlands come to the IJ-hallen flea market to sell their old clothing, furniture, books and what not at this huge flea market. Others, of course, come to browse all those second hand treasures and take the best ones home.

Europe’s largest flea market
This second hand market is the biggest one in Europe and while it is very popular, it is still possible to find very special items here. Designer clothing, a special first edition of a famous novel, vintage furniture or toys: it can all be found here and often for very low prices.
Indoor or outdoor
In winter, the IJ-hallen flea market is located inside the two main halls of the NDSM shipyard. In summertime, most stalls are outside. The free ferry brings you across the river IJ from Central Station four times an hour. The IJ-hallen flea market opens at nine in the morning and it is advised to come early if you want to do some serious second hand shopping!
