When visiting Amsterdam a trip to a real coffee shop should be on the to do list. Back in 1974, the Bulldog was the first coffee shop of Amsterdam. Today you can find shops like these all over town, but The Bulldog is still leading the game.

No joke
The Bulldog Palace on the Leidseplein is a famous spot that houses a grand cafe upstairs, a downstairs coffee shop and a souvenir shop. It opened in 1985 on April Fool’s day and was thought to be a joke, especially because the building on the Leidseplein used to house police headquarters. Even for Amsterdam standards that was thought to be impossible!
