The Snoepwinkeltje

Feel like a six year old again in Mariska’s shop Het Snoepwinkeltje (the candy shop), where the shelves are packed with pots filled with old Dutch sweets. You can try them to your heart’s content because the syrup soldiers (stroopsoldaatjes), harts of sugar and the ‘amsterdammertjes’ are sold per piece, but the real sweet tooth buys a bag full of course.

Old Dutch sweets as souvenirs

And if you’re a tourist, you can’t leave the Snoepwinkeltje without a piece of ‘zoethout’, licorice or a bag of black and white. This way you get to know the Dutchmen a little bit better as they eat an average of four pounds of licorice each year!
